I had to sit next to an extremely obese man during a three hour bus trip while on vacation in France. He was so fat, I think he had body cheese collecting under his breasts and belly. There were a lot of round-abouts on the way to Saint Malo. By the time we got there, I was off the bus, vomiting into a bush.
I think about this man, each and every time I see a promo for "Man Vs. Food" and I point at the television and say -- "That's why Americans are so fucking fat."

That is one of my biggest fears -- being "that guy," the guy who spills over the seats. Rationally I know I'm (now) pretty far away from that (~92% of my treatment-center-calculated IBW) but my ED tells me I'm a McDonalds Happy Meal away from needing seatbelt extenders and two tickets on Southwest...

One solution is to fly Southwest and make sure you're in the last boarding group. That way, you can choose to sit next to the fat person, ugly person, smelly person or any other person who's sitting alone. You can also strike it rich and fly first class.

After reading your post on ethics, I thought I would share with you this story….

I was taking the greyhound to NYC from Philly a few weeks ago. The line was particularly long and, when finally getting to me, the ticket collector said “sorry we’re full.” I looked at him and said “I HAVE to get to NYC, is there any way?” He responded “there is one seat, (looking me up and down), YOU could probably fit.”
“Ill take it!” as I ran on; only to find the three person seat in the back next to the bathroom occupied by a person whom hadn’t bathed in quite some time, and a large (at least) 300 pound man. I looked at the overly robust gentlemen, he looked at me, and said “oh helllllll no.” I said, “Did you buy two seats? No. Then tuck your shit in…” I proceeded to Tetris myself between the two and for the first hour the large man was cussing me out under his breath. To lighten the mood, I turned to him and said “would it be awkward if I fell asleep and put my head on your shoulder?”
I thought it was funny, he did not. I almost died that day, but here’s to equal seating rights for everyone! I kinda felt like Rosa Parks…
