Breaking Even

Vacations are always a bit scary for an anorexic – your daily food routine is shot to hell, not to mention that the main point of most vacations is to indulge oneself in good food and drink. As one who believes that it’s good to come out ofSkinny in the city your comfort zone every once in a while, I bravely decided to leave my scale behind while my husband and I vacationed in New York City and allowed myself to eat like a semi-normal person. Of course, I couldn’t have starved even had I tried. Walking, shopping and just generally being chic require a lot of energy.  But despite the caloric demands of city living, I didn’t give myself much of a break. I still spent much of my time obsessing about my food intake and trying to calculate calories consumed vs. calories burned.

By the end of the week, I had convinced myself that my vacation had transformed me from a skinny bitch into a fat ugly blob. When I stepped on the scale for the first time yesterday, you can imagine my surprise upon seeing that I had just broken even. That’s when I realized that I can’t eat unless I live in the city (or exercise at home, which is really asking for too much).
