Squeezed Dry
My friend and I walked to brunch on Sunday in 99 percent humidity, 90 degree heat. It’s not my habit to exercise, so
to treat myself for the momentous feat, I ordered a fresh squeezed orange juice. Actually, I ordered plain orange juice. Then the waitress asked, “fresh squeezed” or “regular”? I figured the fresh squeezed kind couldn’t be that much more expensive and regular sounded more like punishment than a treat. So I chose the fresh OJ and when it came, I wasn’t disappointed. It was a small glass, maybe 6 ounces, and when I was finished, the waitress asked if I’d like another glass. I declined on account of the calories, and it’s a good thing I did because that small glass cost me $5.00. Considering that the orange itself probably cost .15 cents, either they’re charging an extraordinary amount for 20 seconds of labor or the End of Times is near.
